Five offline RPGs worth the storage

RPGs and long flights go together, but too many mobile RPGs quietly need a connection for saves or events. These don't. Every game here runs fully in airplane mode, and I checked each one myself.

The common thread among the best offline RPGs is generous local saving. You want to be able to close the app mid-battle and trust it'll be there later. I test this by force-closing during a boss fight — the good ones don't blink.

My tip for choosing one: match the combat style to how you'll play. Turn-based games are forgiving of interruptions, while action combat wants your full attention. On a crowded train, turn-based wins every time.
